And I have been very fond of nature and concerned about wildlife conservation since I was a child. So, in my junior year, I went alone to a game reserve in South Africa to do volunteer wildlife conservation work with a local wildlife protection organization call Wildlife ACT. This experience is fabulous! That short-hair girl in the photos is me. I took lots of photos when I was there to record how we rescued injured animals, how we set infrared wildlife camera, how we tracked animals by the trails they left, how to use GPS to find our target animals, and how we observed them 👇.

After graduating from my undergraduate degree, I worked as a marketing assistant and media manager for a start-up company in Shanghai. The quantitative research skills I developed during my undergraduate years, my sensitivity to media information, and my own good communication skills and learning ability all helped me quickly adapt to this job.

In addition to doing business planning and operating social media platforms, since I have taught myself graphic design, I also helped companies do some design work, such as poster design, presentation design, banner design, newsletter design and so on.

After deciding to go to the US for graduate school, I quit my job to better prepare for the exam. At the same time, I still rely on my network resources as a freelancer, helping clients to design the layout of WeChat articles and some simple design works.

In terms of choosing a master's degree, I chose Georgetown University's Communication, Culture and Technology program among many offers. This is an interdisciplinary program, which is best for a person with multiple backgrounds like me -- who has a bachelor's degree in international studies, has leadership in organizing international cultural exchange events and managing crew members, and has work experience in the fields of design, marketing, and media operations. The goal of CCT is to develop talents who can act as a "bridge" in the organization. To achieve this goal, I have learned data analysis, PR skills, management principles, some introductory coding knowledge, and most importantly, user experience design during the two years of study.

User experience is a field that requires research skills, data analysis skills, design skills, and communnication skills. And these are exactly the skillset I have.

  • My undergraduate experience has given me a lot of qualitative research experience, and I have also accumulated skills in information collection and organization in work and social activities.

  • During my undergraduate and master's years, I have always been in managerial roles of student organizations and organized many large-scale events. These activities have fully exercised my leadership and crisis management skills.

  • I have studied in China, the UK, and the US. Every time I come to a new environment, I can always adapt quickly and make new friends. I have always shown good adaptability, communication skills, and learning ability.

  • During my master's degree, I completed the Statistics Foundation series courses on LinkedIn Learning, and studied data analysis and content analysis with SPSS and R Language at the university. nd acquired the ability of data analysis and quantitative research. As a result, my data analysis and quantitative research skills have improved significantly and I have the ability to conduct independent research with raw data.

  • I have been fond of painting since I was a child, and I have accumulated the ability to aesthetically appreciate through my growth. And after teaching myself graphic design, I have a deeper understanding of composition and color matching, and have mastered common design softwares such as Photoshop, Illustration, and InDesign. Moreover, during my masters, I learned more design principles through User Experience Design and Graphic Design Studies, which allowed me to further my design professionalism.

I am a person full of curiosity and have a desire of exploration. I enjoy learning about new fields, I like to do research for the things I don't know, and I am very happy to communicate with people to exchange ideas and spark inspirations. I believe my skillset and character are suitable for working in the field of User Experience and I hope to contribute my knowledge and experience to this field.

Thanks for Reading! 🥳
